On August 5, 2020, at approximately 3:30 pm, police were dispatched to Davis Street on a report of Fraud. The victim told police that she received a request for money on “WhatsApp” from who she believed was a friend. The victim sent approximately $900 through the application thinking that she was providing assistance to her friend in a time of need. When she reached out to her friend, he advised her that he did not request any money and believes that the “WhatsApp” account was hacked.

Never send any money or personal information using electronic "Apps" or social media unless you have first verified that the account you are sending to is known to you and you have used a second form of verification such as calling the person or company to ensure its validity.
